Rodric Brock Obituary

Rodric Alan “Rod” Brock passed away unexpectedly at home in North Richland Hills, Texas, on November 19, 2024.

Rod was born in Sherman, Texas, on January 16, 1968, to Tommy and Mary Anne Brock and moved to Hurst, Texas, in 1969, where Rod spent his childhood. He entered Shady Brook Elementary in 1973 as a member of their first kindergarten class. Continuing his HEB ISD career at Bedford Junior High and subsequently Bell High, Rod graduated from L. D. Bell in 1986. On both campuses Rod was an active member and officer of Student Council, Class Councils, and Honor Society. In his senior year, he was selected by the Bell faculty as Mr. BHS.

An outstanding athlete at all levels, Rod participated in Mid-Cities basketball, football, and Tri-Cities baseball. During junior high he excelled in track, including the summer program under the direction of the late Dan Beckleman. Rod loved recalling the summer meets of 1980 when events were often delayed until a 10 p.m. start time because of the extreme heat; however, Coach Beckleman continued to insist participants practice every week day afternoon at 1:30. It was a great lesson in commitment.

Following his graduation from Bell High School, Rod attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas. A proud Kangaroo, he was a member of the football team when they brought the TIAA title back to AC in 1988. His Rho Lambda Theta fraternity brothers dubbed him "Jester." In 1990 Rod earned a BA degree making him a 3rd generation graduate of Austin College. After a brief time of employment in logistics in the Greater Boston Area, Rod returned to Texas and enrolled in law school at Texas Wesleyan University (now Texas A & M School of Law) where he was awarded the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and admitted to the bar in 1995. A member of the State Bar of Texas for almost 30 years, Rod was passionate about criminal law yet came to enjoy the transactional aspect he was forced to accept following two strokes seven years ago. Totally committed to his practice and clients, Rod worked until the day of his death.

In 1997 and 2004 with the arrival of his sons lan Andrew and Rowan Alec, Rod embraced fatherhood, bonding with the boys as his best friends. Appropriately described as their music trivia team "Triple Threat," the three Brocks were a competitive force of sitcom quotes, hilarious storytelling, and superior movie taste. With his sons, Rod enjoyed watching war movies and TV dramas; his passion for the arts transversed multiple mediums and subjects. Rod's knowledge of music was award-winning due to his vast taste spanning from classic rock to folk, pop, and especially oldies.
Dad, avid reader, historian, musician, writer, and comedian, Rod was the wearer and proud owner of many different hats, including Best Beatles Fan.

Preceded in death by both sets of grandparents (Floyd and Mary Elizabeth Stribling and Floyd and Miriam Brock). Rod is survived by sons Ian Andrew of Euless, Rowan Alec of College Station, brother Russell and his wife Allison, sister Robyn, two nieces Caroline Brock and Presley Nix and nephews, Connor Brock and Noah Nix.

A memorial service to celebrate Rod's life will be held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 7452 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, on Sunday December 8 at 2 p.m.
