Peggy Elliott Obituary

PEGGY ANN ELLIOTT has moved into heaven with her mother, Lucy Mooney, her aunt

Willow B Anderson, her older sister, Nell Blackman, Nell’s daughter, Sherry Coplen, her twin sister, BL Hill, her father, RJ Gruening and her husband, Travis Elliott.

Peggy knew her most important role in life was to provide a family home with Travis Elliott for

their children, Judi, Jim, Janet and Kelly. Peggy was always the bedrock of the home,

setting rules, standards and values that provided her children with stability and security and would define them throughout their adult lives.

Peggy continued to instill her values and love on her grandchildren for whom she, according to Peggy. had to wait many years. Finally, Collin, then Melissa arrived, growing Kelly and Marci Elliott’s family.

Peggy, now called Nana, would have Collin and Melissa join her and Travis for many memorable long summer visits, creating a forever bond with them. So, it is not surprising to learn that Melissa, her husband, and their son regularly communicated via video calls and loved visiting with her in person on trips home. And Collin, his wife, and their five children lived nearby and shared almost weekly visits with Peggy.

Peggy was born in Kingman, Arizona on July 26, 1931, where she lived for a short time before her family moved to Brownwood, Texas. There, Nell, Peggy, and Peggy’s twin sister, BL, grew up, graduated from high school and became consummate roller skaters. Her expert roller skating abilities continued well into her adult years, even being known at the local roller skate rink for her incredible dancing and jitterbug dances with her now young-adult son.

After graduation the family moved to Midland where Peggy found work at Standard Oil and bought a home. She married Travis and they, with their four children spent ten great years in Midland, moving to Lubbock in 1965.

Peggy and Travis shared a wonderful life in Lubbock, making many life-long friends. They enjoyed get-togethers and bowling nights. Peggy was a star bowler, carrying a high average in a league and twice bowled perfect games. She also started painting lessons, becoming a wonderful artist with paintings admired by many people, purchased by some, and today filling the homes of her loved ones.

Peggy’s love for children extended to friends of her children, always loving opening her home and offering food, drinks and fun. She created wonderful memories with cousins and cousins’ children hosting them for visits several summers.

But Peggy’s life was most noted by her love for God and her church. She was a church secretary and volunteer. For ten years, Peggy was a teacher for the pre-teen Sunday night program, and a leader in the Girls Auxiliary (GAs) at her church. For over thirty years, Peggy taught 6th and 7th grade girls Sunday school classes. Often, her Sunday School girls frequently mobbed her when they saw her at the local mall, eager to share their day’s activities.

Peggy was also a popular youth camp counselor, sharing her wisdom and pouring herself into the students. She was also known for treats, pranks, and laughter during camp. She also served many years in other volunteer capacities at multiple churches.

She and Travis lived together in Lubbock until his death in 1994. A year later, Peggy moved to the DFW area to share the remainder of her life with her children and grandchildren.

Janet came to live with her in 2005, shared life with her, and in Peggy’s last years, made life comfortable, safe and enjoyable. Because of Janet’s love and devotion, Peggy was able to stay home where she was most comfortable and at peace until her last breath.

Peggy’s life was a wonderful story of who she was. But most of all, Peggy loved God and loved reading His word. In her final couple of years, she would completely wear out her Bibles with daily reading.

Peggy filled her 93 years with faith, love, family, courage, strength, fun, and glorious memories.

She passed on January 14, 2025, at home in the love and care of her family. Today, she is dancing, maybe skating in Heaven with her Lord. And the legacy of her life lives on forever in those who loved her and were loved by her.

Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, February 15, 2025, 3:30-5:00pm at the Aloft Hotel, 1301 Chisholm Trail, Euless, Texas.
