Madeline Collins Obituary

Madeline Patrice (Bounds) Collins
February 10, 1946-March 9, 2025

Madeline joined the Saints in Heaven on Sunday evening, March 9th. Her husband and soulmate of 58 years, Fred, was by her side as she took her last earthly breath.

Additional survivors: Daughter, Kimberly (Jon) Vidaurri; Son, Casey (Sari) Collins; Brothers, Ron (Rebecca) Bounds, Dennis (Margaret) Bounds; Brother-In-Law, Hobart Collins (Martha); Granddaughter, Madeline Vidaurri; Grandson, Liam Collins and several nieces and nephews.

Madeline was born in Monroe, LA on February 10, 1946, to Melba and Ronnie Earl Bounds. Her father, an attorney, later moved the family to New Orleans and ultimately to Shreveport LA. After graduating in 1963 from Byrd High School she attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston LA, earning BA degree majoring in Commercial Art in 1967. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

In her Sophomore year she met her husband, Fred. They met at Freshman orientation a year earlier and while keeping an acquaintance had not dated. That first date began a wonderful sixty-year bond which they cemented with their marriage on June 24, 1967 in Shreveport LA. They were married almost 58 years.

Fred was in the US Navy when they married and were stationed in San Diego and then the Naval Air Station in Beeville, TX. While there, Madeline went to work for the Beeville School District, teaching English to migrant children. She loved being with the children and in her caring nature, went to many of their homes to know the parents.

After two years at Beeville, Fred was deployed to Viet Nam. While living with her parents in Shreveport, she worked for a local TV station in their AD department.

When Fred returned from Viet Nam, he joined Madeline in Shreveport and returned to Louisiana Tech to complete his degree in Business Administration. Upon Graduation, Fred went to work for Xerox Corporation, and they moved to several locations over the next few years.

They were blessed with two children, Kimberly and Casey and two grandchildren, Liam and Madeline. She was a very caring Mom and enjoyed her family. She was able to be a full-time mother for most of the kid's early age.

Fred's work carried them to several cities. While living in Little Rock AR, Madeline started her own commercial Graphic Design business, working with customers to create their graphic image with logo, advertising and other branding visuals. She was honored to win First Place in the Southwest Regional "Addy" awards, competing with major Ad Firms in the Dallas area.

While living in Memphis TN, she worked as a designer for Cleo Wrap, a division of Gibson Greetings designing wrapping paper and other gift wrapping products.

They moved to the Dallas area in 1988, settling in Colleyville. She did some freelance work for DaySpring and other companies before being hired by Fitz and Floyd as a product designer. She loved creating designs for hand-painted dinner ware, ceramic giftware, tableware, decorative accessories and collectibles. She especially enjoyed the friendship of the design group she worked with.

She continued to work for Fitz remotely for five years from South Fork, CO. after Fred retired. There, she fulfilled a dream of designing and building a home.

Circumstances required a return to Texas. Madeline continued to create beautiful products for Fitz and Floyd. She always said that she got great joy knowing her designs gave enjoyment to other people.

She retired in 2012 and they moved back to CO, this time to the mountains around Pikes Peak, near the small community of Divide. She loved the wildlife and the beauty of the mountains. She especially enjoyed the many trips they took in their travel trailer exploring CO and other states. She was a great hiker and loved seeing God's beautiful creation. When friends came to visit, she loved taking them to see the beautiful mountains.

Her gradual journey with dementia finally required that they return to TX to be close to her children. Madeline loved her relationship with the Lord and started her day early, with praying and journaling her prayers, concerns, and praises. In Memphis, she and Fred led a Young Married class at Kirby Woods Baptist church and again at First Baptist Hurst. She was active in Woodland Park Community church, CO, assisting in the children's ministry and working with Fred in leading a senior's ministry. She loved serving the homeless volunteering at Beautiful Feet Ministries in Fort Worth. She was always more concerned about the welfare of others before herself and did not like to be the center of attention. So many stories have been shared in the past few days of how she quietly helped someone in need. God always got the credit for her artistic skills, acknowledging it was a gift that she got to share.

She is missed. but we know her memory will live on through others. It is the end here, but the beginning "there"!
