On September 15, 2024, Lyle Wittmayer of North Richland Hills, TX, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Jeannene at his side, and he was ushered into heaven.
Lyle and Jeannene married in 1979 in Monterey, CA,and resided in Lodi, CA. Soon they moved to Burney, CA, and finally to Redding, CA. They ultimately spent their last years together in Texas near family.
Lyle loved to travel, specifically on cruise ships. Traveling to new locations appealed to his adventurous spirit. There were also trips to see his family and friends. Some visits were to celebrate weddings and new life as little ones arrived, others were to celebrate family by spending time being Gramps. The phone calls, letters, cards, and visits Lyle received during the final weeks of his life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to him.
Lyle, the third of four children, was born on February 10, 1936, to Ted and Alta Wittmayer in Shoshone, Idaho. The family ultimately moved to Lodi, California. Lyle was a hard worker starting in his early teenage years. He delivered telegrams for Western Union on a bicycle he purchased with money he earned. Lyle graduated from Lodi High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1956 to 1962, and graduated from their basic accounting course. In later years, he attended Humphrey Business College and became an enrolled agent for tax services. Over his career he worked as a cost accountant for Claude Woods Construction, a partner in Stephens Construction, and for Vali Cooper and Associates where he was an inspector for roads and bridges all over California.
Lyle was always active and his keen intellect drove all his pursuits. He had a passion for golf, especially playing golf with his friends. Lyle enjoyed cigars with his son, Andy, where they would spend hours talking and laughing. He looked forward each week to watching 49er football and/or Giants baseball with Andy and Brian. Lyle also enjoyed the occasional strawberry milkshake.
Lyle was committed to his Christian faith and was active in his churches: St Luke’s Anglican (CA) and St Patrick Anglican (TX). He was a principled man of integrity always in search of the truth. In his final years, he deeply contemplated his faith, and committed himself to Christ.
