Larry Mick Sr. Obituary

Larry Vaughn Mick, Sr passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024. Larry born on December 23, 1935, in Mt. Vernon, IL. Larry lived 88 years and enjoyed a very wonderful life filled with a lot of loving family and friends. After graduation from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, TX, Larry joined the US Air Force and served for 4 years. Following his service in the Air Force, Larry enjoyed a 25-year career as an Air Traffic Controller and retired from DFW Airport Tower. After retiring from DFW Airport as an Air Traffic Controller, Larry was employed by the City of North Richland Hills. He used his amazing organization skills to help in the Records Dept. Larry retired for good after 10 years of service with the city.

Larry also volunteered in a lot of organizations including his church, coaching softball when his girls were younger and the Boy Scouts with many of his grandsons and nephews. Larry met Margaret Jane Vastine during his time at TCU. Larry and "Peggy" eventually married and had 4 children. As newlyweds, Larry and Peggy served as youth leaders at a local church. Larry and Peggy were charter members of William C. Martin United Methodist Church in Bedford, TX. Larry and Peggy enjoyed 42 years together raising their 3 children, seeing them all marry and have their own children. Peggy passed away in 2002. Larry met Joyce Jackson in 2003 and they married the following year. Larry and Joyce enjoyed travelling together and spending time with their family. They were married for 12 years until Joyce's death in 2017.

Larry was a wonderful son, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many. Known as the "King of Com", Larry enjoyed intentionally mispronouncing names, flirting with waitresses and nurses and encouraging others to expand their vocabulary with the "look it up in the dictionary" phrase.

Larry is preceded in death by his mother, Olive Florence Henley, Baby Boy Mick, Father, William Lawrence Mick, Step-Mother, Marguerite Mick, wife, Peggy Vastine Mick and wife Joyce Jackson Mick.

Larry is survived by his children: Sheryl Mick Sills and husband Steve, Larry Vaughn Mick, Jr and wife Teressa Walters Mick, Cyndi Mick Worsham and husband Billy. Randy Cotten and wife Marianne Cotten, Roxane Dougherty and husband Tim, and Rhonda Rountree. Also, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 6:00 - 8:00, Forest Ridge Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at William C. Martin United Methodist Church on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:00 am. Wear purple if you so choose to as that is Larry's favorite color - Go Frogs! Memorials can be made to UMCOR, Salvation Army, William C. Martin United Methodist Church - Bedford or your favorite charity. This world lost an amazing Dad, Father-in-law, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother-in-law, Friend, but we are comforted knowing he is in the arms of Jesus and basking in all of God’s glory.
