Kenneth Scott Sumerford, age 73, was born in Springfield, Missouri, and peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 16, 2021 in Haslet, Texas.
As a young child in Springfield, Missouri, Kenneth loved traveling across the country with his parents, Milton Scott Sumerford and Martha Lucille Sumerford. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father, and cherished his mother's baking and story telling. At the age of 12, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
He graduated with a Bachelor's in Biology and a Master's of Business Administration from Southwest Missouri State University. In his early career, Kenneth worked as a chemical technician at Caterpillar and then took a position at Bell Helicopter in the quality control department. He was a member of MENSA and active member of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. Later in his career, he worked as a computer programmer for several companies, including American Airlines, WorldCom and Lockheed Martin.
Kenneth met the love of his life, Miss Donna Elaine Copelin, in 1970 at Southside Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. They enjoyed bowling, tennis and traveling. Kenneth and Donna lived in Springfield, Missouri where they had their first child, Angela Elaine Sumerford. They moved to Peoria, Illinois where they had their second child, Scott Howard Sumerford. In 1986, Kenneth and his family moved to Keller, Texas and later to Haslet, Texas in 2003 where he lived until his last days.
After retiring in 2013, Kenneth spent his time reading, writing and sharing his faith in Jesus Christ. He loved his country and would pray daily for our leaders. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna Sumerford; his daughter, Angela Miller; his son Scott Sumerford; and his eight grandchildren: Daniel, Adriana, Sophia, Hunter, Reagan, Logan, Scarlett and Audrey.
He is preceded in death by his father, Milton Sumerford and his mother, Lucille Sumerford.
