John Kelly Schofield, the youngest child of David Albert and Jennie Macel (Jack) Schofield, was born April 13, 1943 on a ranch near Manassa, Colorado. When he was born, his oldest sibling was 29 and the youngest was 13, so he had many big brothers and sisters to adore him. Kelly lived in Peru and Uruguay for two and a half years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He came home with a commitment to serve God and a deep love for the Latin American people.
Kelly was married to Lynette Martin of Sanford, Colorado at the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple on December 16, 1966. Together they raised four children, Sheralyn (Dwight) Belyeu of Alexander City, Alabama, Maura (Shane) Prince of Cincinnati, Ohio, Theo (Kirudys) Schofield of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jocelyn (Dean) Allen of Justin, Texas.
Kelly graduated from Adams State University, the first member of his family to finish college. He moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he joined American Airlines, which allowed him to travel.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, by his five half-siblings, Albert Marven Schofield, Basil Banks Schofield, Bessie Irene Schofield, Mary Georgia Schofield Fettes, and Marjorie Ozemba Schofield Culler, and by his two full-siblings, David Theodore Schofield and Nellie Jacqueline Schofield Otteson. He is survived by his wife, their four children, eighteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints--Hurst Stake Center, 4401 NE Loop 820, North Richland Hills, TX 76180, from 9 am to 10:45 am, with the funeral following at 11 am.
