John Carter Obituary

John Bruner Carter answered the call from God to join his wife in Heaven on Feb. 2, 2023.

Born to multigenerational Rockford, Illinois residents T Bruner Carter and Lucille Conklin-Carter on May 16, 1935, he was also known as “Sonny”. He was a member of West High’s JROTC program and after spending some time at Rockford Men’s college he joined the US Army in 1956 being honorably discharged in 1960.
In 1962 he found himself in Texas where he married the love of his life, Margie, with whom he was married to for 58 years and raised two generations of kids before her passing in 2020.

John Carter took pride serving his Lord-and-Savior as deacon at North Richland Hills Baptist Church and later North Pointe Baptist Church where he also participated in choir and portrayed a disciple in the annual Christmas Pageant.

John was a carpenter by trade and credit and finance man by experience. His work included being a ‘handyman’s handyman’ who was building fences and workhouses well into his 60’s. He was a security guard at his grandkids’ highschool during their school years and later became the Birdville school district’s mailman, providing cheesy jokes and sharing smiles with all the students and teachers and anyone he would be around.

There wasn’t a person he met that he couldn’t make smile. He touched a lot of lives and will be incredibly missed and remembered by many.

John Carter is preceded in death by his big sister who he loved dearly, Grace Carter-Gass, who passed just weeks prior to John.
John’s own dad passed away on Christmas Day. John’s wife passed away on Thanksgiving Day. And John continued this coincidental holiday passing by peacefully leaving us on Groundhogs Day.
He is survived by his children, Sheri and Brad; his grandkids, Cody and Ryan; and a great-granddaughter, Ellie; and his 9 year old Sheltie, Chance.
