Evelyn “Marie” Vogl, age 90, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in North
Richland Hills, Texas. Her life was a testament to unwavering faith, enduring love, and
heartfelt service to others.
Born on November 4, 1935, in Gainesboro, Tennessee, Marie grew up with a strong
sense of community and purpose. She graduated from Apopka Memorial High School in
Florida, where she was actively involved in the 4-H Club. She pursued further education
at Alabama Christian College in Montgomery for a year before attending Jones
Business College in Orlando. Her studies led to a position as a secretary in a law office
in Orlando.
It was in Orlando that Marie met the love of her life, Gregory Stephan Vogl. They were
married on her birthday, November 4, 1958—a union that would span more than five
decades. Together they built a life rooted in faith and family. As the wife of a career Air
Force serviceman, Marie embraced the challenges and joys of military life with grace
and hospitality. The couple lived in various locations including Orlando; Bermuda;
Washington D.C.; Little Rock; Hawaii; and finally Colorado Springs. No matter where
they were stationed, Marie made their home a welcoming place—often opening her
doors to young servicemen for meals and holiday gatherings.
Marie and Greg were blessed with two sons: Steve, born in Orlando in 1959, and Craig,
born in Bermuda in 1962. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising them with love
and spiritual guidance. Her commitment to faith was evident in every aspect of her
life—from serving as church secretary at Eastside Church of Christ in Colorado Springs
to sending cards of encouragement to those around her. She played an instrumental
role in her husband's spiritual journey and instilled deep values of faith in her
children—one becoming a preacher and the other an elder in the church.
After Greg’s retirement from the Air Force, the family settled permanently in Colorado
Springs, where they lived for about 30 years. Around 2002, Marie and Greg moved to
Granbury, Texas to be closer to family. Following Greg’s passing in 2013, Marie
relocated to North Richland Hills where she spent her final years at Atria Senior
Apartments and later at Holiday Lane Assisted Living.
Marie’s life was marked by quiet strength and compassionate service. She had a gift for
sewing and cross stitching, enjoyed working on puzzles and reading. Her kindness
touched many lives—she was always ready with an encouraging word or thoughtful
gesture.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister Marlene Rothfus and husband Bobby; brother
Roy Lester; sons Steve and wife Lanette, Craig and wife Susan; grandchildren A.J. and
wife Whitney, Kristen Jones and husband Brady, Justin and wife Deana, Weston and
wife Caity, Brian, Matthew, and Zachary; great-grandchildren Hunter, Henry, Willie,
Kade, Clara, Camden, Cohen, Landry, Jasmine, and Cedar.
Marie’s legacy is one of faithfulness—to God, to her family, and to every person she
encountered along the way. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her. A
Memorial Service will be held on February 21, 2026, at 02:00 PM at College Hill Church
of Christ at 7447 College Circle in North Richland Hills, Texas.
