David was born in Buffalo, New York to Elmer and Mildred Smith on April 15, 1929. After attending local schools and 3 years at Michigan State University, he served 2 years in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Moog, Inc. in East Aurora, N.Y. for over 40 years as a quality control engineer. He also worked and resided in California for 8 years before retiring to Grapevine, TX in 1993 to be by his beloved family.
David lived life to the fullest. He met his wife, Sally Harpur, in 1959 and they enjoyed a 63 year marriage filled with love and blessed with two children, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. He loved the outdoors, whether taking vacations or cruises to warm destinations, boating on area lakes, or simply gardening around his homes. He also cherished having his family and friends visit to enjoy their company.
David is survived by his wife, Sally May Smith; daughter, Catherine Louise Block; son, Gregory David (Patricia Garcia) Smith; granddaughter, Christina Marie Block; great-granddaughter Ivory Grace Cornell; and nephews, Mark Miller, Michael Miller, Karl Miller and Kurt Miller.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mildred Smith and sister, Joyce (Ralph) Miller.
David’s Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 7, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. at Forest Ridge Funeral Home Memorial Park Chapel, 8525 Mid-Cities Blvd., North Richland Hills, TX 76182. Family will be present at 2 p.m. for visitation. Memorial Service to begin at 3 p.m. in the Chapel.
