Christina Rafaela Alburquerque, 84, of Haltom City, went to be with the Lord on July 1, 2020, with family by her side. Christina Harper was born to the late Albert and Josephine Harper on October 25, 1935 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. As a diplomat, Mrs. Alburquerque moved to New York City in 1961 and worked as a stenographer at the United Nations. She married Evangelista Alburquerque in New York City in 1962 and had five children.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Mrs. Alburquerque was very active in the Roman Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manhattan, NYC. After relocating with her growing family to a larger home, Mrs. Alburquerque was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church and received several Awards of Gratitude from the Church for her dedicated voluntary service.
With an innate love for children, in 1977, Mrs. Alburquerque became a permanent staff member at Louise Wise Services, an Organization for Children and Families in NYC. While at Louis Wise Services, Mrs. Alburquerque received several Certificates of Appreciation for her deep commitment to children and families. Adding to her family, Ms. Alburquerque adopted two children in 1998.
Mrs. Alburquerque is known for her love of calypso, dancing and the singing of great crooners! She is also remembered for her amazing cooking and her huge holiday feasts! And most of all, she’s known for her deep religious faith.
Christina Alburquerque was preceded in death by grandchildren Juliette Karina, Savannah Grace “Gracie,” and Angelina Christina “Lola.” Christina Alburquerque and will be buried alongside them at Oakwood Cemetery.
Christina Alburquerque is survived by her children: Peter, John, Linda, Ana Maria, Monique, Joy and Timothy and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
