Bobbie Madge Speer, 97, passed away peacefully on November 25,2023
with her
family and Stone Creek Retirement staff at her side.
"Miss Bobbie" was born on December 12,1925 to Hubert and Lallie Woodard in Mesquite Texas and became an integral part of what is now called The Greatest Generation. She graduated from Mesquite High School, married her high school sweetheart Weldon Speer who received the Purple Heart with the First Armored Replacement Battalion in Europe during World War II. Bobbie walked in faith with the Word of God as the foundation of her faith encouraging her children, extended family and anyone else who would listen to do also. She sacrificially gave of her time and financial resources to her local church and outreach missions. Miss Bobbie retired at the young age of 85 after 27 years with Southland Life Insurance as Supervisor in General Accounting and 25 years with Mesquite Police Department, Records Division where she was awarded the Civilian of the Year in 1997. The last two weeks of her life, Bobbie would frequently say to the Stone Creek Staff she wanted to go home. They thought she was referencing her house in Mesquite she lived in for 60+ years. The staff found a poem at her bedside after her passing with an underlined passage that stated:
Do not grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I am following the path God laid for me.
I took His Hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.
Miss Bobbie is survived by her daughter and son in law, Patricia and Jeff Stricklin, son and daughter in law, Michael and Glenda Speer, four grandchildren, Lou Stricklin (Kim), Melissa Hall (Brian), Janena Young (Scott), Jon Speer (Anna) and eight great grandchildren, Aidan Stricklin, Cale Stricklin, Brek Stricklin, Allie Hall, Deacon Hall, Jon Young, James Young and Eleanor Speer.
If you wish to donate in her memory, please consider St. Jude Children's Hospital.
