Barbara Ann (Sayles) McMillon, 77, passed away on February 13, 2023 at home in North Richland Hills surrounded by her three devoted children.
Born in Childress, TX on March 5, 1945, Barbara was the ninth child of Charles R. and Bertha Sayles. She spent her formative years in Lubbock and was a proud graduate of Lubbock High School. Barbara met the love of her life, Jimmy Wayne McMillon, at a TG&Y in Lubbock in 1962, where she was a candy girl and he was a stockboy during his freshman year at Texas Tech. They married the following year and began a 56-year journey that would include stops in Gatesville, Lamesa, Clovis, NM, Shallowater, Slaton, Littlefield, Hereford, Corpus Christi, Amarillo, Columbia, MO, and, finally, Houston. Along the way, they had three wonderful children, Lisa, Steve, and Jim Bob.
In addition to raising her children and keeping a very tidy house, Barbara was employed in the accounting department of several businesses. At home she ran a tight ship; her children had daily chores, were expected to mind and be ready for church on Sundays. She retired from Perry Homes in 2009 after working there for ten years and had previously worked for Allred Oil and Corpus Christi Grain.
Barbara enjoyed cooking, shopping, and reading. A consummate southern cook, she regularly prepared banana pudding and Easy Moist Chocolate cake along with other wonderful desserts. Barbara also made cornbread dressing, biscuits and gravy and many other meals rarely using measurements.
Barbara had the strong faith of a life-long Christian and belonged to numerous Baptist churches over the years, including Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia, MO and Tuloso Midway Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. She especially enjoyed the fellowship at University Baptist Church in Clear Lake.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Charles R. and Bertha Sayles, her beloved husband Jimmy Wayne McMillon, brothers Alvie, Charles Ray, Carl, and Billy Sayles, sisters Maxine Blair and Anna Maynard, and grandson Haden Landis. Barbara is survived by her daughter Lisa McMillon, sons Steven McMillon (Claudio Carbonero) and James McMillon (MaryBeth), sisters Essie Conley, Dessie Bryant, and Gail Harris, brother Jerry Don Sayles, grandchildren Joseph Millar, Katherine Millar Haramy, (Joe Haramy), Shane Landis, Nathan and Glenn McMillon, Penelope and Nicole Carbonaro McMillon, and countless nieces and nephews.
