Barbara Nelson Obituary

Barbara Louise Nelson went to live in her heavenly home with her savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, September 25, 2026. Barbara Louise Curtis was born May 15, 1939, to Willard P. and Marion A. Curtis in Flint, Michigan. She married Bill Linton on March 16, 1957. They had three children together: Mark, Paul, and Laura. The family moved to Hurst, Texas in 1969. After Bill’s death in 1991, Barbara married Roy Glenn on April 29, 1995. Barbara’s dream was to live at the lake so she could look at the water and feel God’s presence in His creation. She and Roy lived happily at Lake Tawakoni until Roy’s death in 2011. Barbara moved back into her home in Hurst where she and Bill had raised their children. She found love again, in 2016. Barbara married Neal Nelson at First United Methodist Church Hurst on October 28, 2019. They moved to Crossville, Tennessee on November 1, 2020. Their life together in Tennessee was full of joy, laughter, new friends, and dancing.

In her early years, Barbara loved being a stay at home mom. She was active as an elementary school room mother, Boy Scout Leader, Camp Fire Leader, Cheerleading coach, Sunday school teacher, and anything else her husband and children needed. When Bill was put on dialysis for kidney failure, Barbara went to nursing school and received her Registered Nurse certification in order to provide care for him at home. After his transplant, she continued to work in the nursing field for many years.

Barbara loved music. She was active in the chancel choir at FUMC-Hurst. When she and Roy moved to Wills Point, she sang in the chancel choir and actively participated with Roy teaching the children’s choir at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church. Upon her return to Hurst, she picked right back up singing with the chancel choir. When Neal and Barbara moved to Tennessee, they were both members of the chancel choir at Crossville First Methodist Church.

Barbara loved being active. She taught Adult Sunday School, attended Bible study, played Bridge, created new recipes, went dancing, swam, traveled, attended the theater, and basically participated in all things that brought joy to her and others.

Barbara loved her family. Thanksgiving was “her” holiday. She wanted her whole family together on this day. There was always room at the table for friends, friends of friends, coworkers, and anyone who needed a place to feel loved by family on that day. Seeing her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether in person or on FaceTime, warmed her heart and always brought a smile to her face.

Most of all, Barbara loved God. She had a deep, abiding faith. She believed in Jesus Christ and had a deep personal relationship with Him. She tried to look for the joy and the God winks in all situations. Barbara once said that she was asked why she smiles so much. Her reply was, “Because I have the love of God in my heart.” She had no doubt that one day she would be joining Him in eternal life.

Barbara was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Bill, her son, Mark, and her 2nd husband, Roy. She is survived by her current husband, Neal, her daughter, Laura Blalock (Tim), her son, Paul (Emma) and her daughter in law, Beverly. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brandi Linton (John Skinner), Kelli Chadwick (Matthew), Jessica Wilson (Drew), Alisa Sky Eagle Smith (James), Austen Blalock (MaKenzi) and her great grandchildren Ethan, Taylor, Milo, Zion, Lincoln, Zoe, William, Theodore, and Natalie. Barbara’s chosen, extended, and blended families were countless, but loved and accepted as her own and cherished in her heart.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Hurst on Saturday, October 10th at 10:30 am. Your support is precious to us. If you wish to honor Barbara with a gift, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
