Andrew Popoff passed away on October 14, 2025 in North Richland Hills, TX at the age of 92.
Andy was born in Forest Hills New York on June 25,1933 to Andrew Peter Popoff and Olympia Morosoff. As a child, he enjoyed spending his summers at the family cottage in Southampton New York while exploring the beach and enjoying time with close friends and family. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea after the Korean War. After discharge from the Army, he attended Columbia University and later got a degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Houston. Andy loved being an engineer and worked at several different companies in New York, New Jersey and Texas. He retired from the Bureau of Printing and Engraving in Fort Worth, which he regarded as his most interesting and rewarding job.
Andy had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved to figure out how things worked and found joy in the process of learning how to do things himself. His early hobbies included photography and processing his own film, wood working, gardening, car repair, and sailing a Sunfish sailboat in races in Mountain Lakes, NJ where his family lived for many years. When home computers became available, he jumped into programming. He could also be found doing home repairs and “inventing” better ways to make his home efficient.
Andy was also an active volunteer in the community throughout his life. He was a volunteer fire fighter in Mountain Lakes, NJ and was an adult volunteer in boy scouts with his son Bob. After retiring, he volunteered with the police department in Arlington, TX, served Meals on Wheels, and became an amateur ham radio operator to assist the CERT program in community events and disaster relief. Andy was also active in church throughout his life.
Andy was married to his wife Nancy for 60 years. They met while playing mixed doubles tennis at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, New York and tennis remained an activity that Andy and Nancy enjoyed together. Andy commented many times that he was so fortunate to have met and married Nancy and that he couldn’t have imagined a better wife. Andy is survived by his wife Nancy and two children: daughter, Karen Pieters and her husband Serge Pieters and son Bob Popoff and wife Heather Van Ligten. He is also survived by his grandchildren Elena Pieters, June Popoff, and Jillian Popoff and his sister Helen Howey. His sister, Liza Popoff passed away 8 months before him. The family will celebrate Andy’s life in a private ceremony
