William Day Obituary

William Edward “Bill” Day was born on September 11, 1938, in Waurika, Oklahoma to Riley Day and Dovie (Willoughby) Day. Bill passed away on March 3, 2022. Bill joined the United States Navy at the age of 18, and over the next 20 years became an Aviation Electrician’s Mate Chief Petty Officer. During his time in the Navy, he was recognized by receiving the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (3 awards), the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Expert Pistol Shot Medal, and many more accommodations and awards. He was extremely proud to serve his country. He enjoyed sharing stories about the experiences he had during that time, and always referred to those he served with as family.

After having served his country faithfully and honorably, he retired from the Navy and began working as a recruiter for Bell Helicopter International, under contract to the U.S. Army. He would then finish his career with Lockheed Martin, facilitating government contracts with Taiwan. He retired in 1999 after 20 years with Lockheed Martin.

Bill met his wife, Linda Roberta Day, at a farewell party for mutual friends of her parents’ and his. They married on June 17, 1978, creating a blended family which included her daughter and his two children. Above all things, spending time with family was his greatest joy. He was the biggest fan and supporter of his children and grandchildren, often being found at any event they were involved in. In his free-time he enjoyed fishing, woodworking/building, photography, working in his yard, and watching anything Western.

He was an outstanding man who showed a tireless work ethic and a true dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Survivors: Loving wife, Linda Roberta Day; son, Jerry Edward Day; daughters, Sheryl Lynn Binetti, and Amy Suzanne Russell; grandchildren, Charles William Chase Morris, Christian Boyd Binetti, Julian Anthony Binetti, Ryan Alan Russell, Samantha Ann Miller, Shawn Michael Tacina, and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by granddaughter Stephanie Barbara Tacina.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org/donate) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org/donate).

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
