Virginia "Ginny" Ann Martino Phoenix, 79, of Bedford, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the VITAS Hospice Unit, Fort Worth. She was the wife of 57 years to Robert "Bob" Phoenix, who survives her.
Ginny was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 23, 1945: daughter of the late Marty and Mollie Martino. She grew up in East Haven, Connecticut and was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State College (now University), obtaining a BS in Special Education. Years later, with a family to tend to, she furthered her education at Texas Women's University and received an MS in Education and certification as a principal. She was an educator for many years, teaching in San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Keller. She was the principal at Holy Family Catholic School in Fort Worth.
Ginny was a long-time member of the AAUW Northeast Tarrant County chapter. She also volunteered for SOS, a Safe Haven for women, City of Bedford Police and Fire Departments. She was a parishioner at and founding member of Good Shepherd Catholic Community in Colleyville, Texas. Ginny's experience in education along with her strong belief in church was instrumental in establishing the religious education program at Good Shepherd.
She is survived by her husband, Bob, sons Peter Marc Phoenix (Jennifer), and Stephan Craig Phoenix (Kimberly), Grandchildren Jordan Elizabeth Phoenix, Michael Anthony Phoenix, and Amelia Brianna Phoenix.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Catholic Community in Colleyville, Texas on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the church Columbarium.
