Virginia Idell Mercer Obituary
Virginia Idell Mercer was born on October 15, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a long-time resident of North Richland Hills and Arlington, Texas. She loved her home and her neighborhood and had a special bond with several of her neighbors. Her backyard was her sanctuary. She was an avid gardener and loved growing beautiful flowers, especially roses. Her superpower was cooking and baking and she took great pride in preparing wonderful, wholesome meals for family. Virginia (known as Dale to many), instilled in her children a great love for animals. She especially loved birds, large dogs, cats and horses. She adored hosting family during holidays, especially Christmas. For years, her children would answer the phone on their birthdays to hear her singing a very off-key rendition of the Stevie Wonder song “I Just Called to Say I Love You”. Virginia loved reading and crossword puzzles, sometimes completing a book of crossword puzzles every week. She had a world-class love for ice cream and anything sweet. She was very opinionated, especially in regard to politics. She was the rock of her family. She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, David Edwin Mercer, Jr, her grandson, Robert Archer, and her best friend, Lillie Richeson. She is survived by her four loving daughters and their husbands: Shirley (Mike Biskobing), Patti (Tony Blewitt), Lynn (Bob Archer), Dava (Steve Stevenson). She also leaves behind the grandchildren she adored: Kim Archer, Adam Biskobing (Debbie), Ashlye Biskobing, Megan Smiley (Dan), Hunter Stevenson (Amber), Nicholas Archer, Aaron Archer and nine much-loved great- grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, July 10th at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in North Richland Hills, Texas. On July 11th , a private graveside service will be held by the family at New Hope Cemetery in Boyd, Texas.
