Verla Geraldine Hajek Obituary

Verla Geraldine Hajek passed away on July 24, 2024, in Bedford, Texas, at the age of 93. Born on June 19, 1931, in Oklahoma, she led a fulfilling life characterized by her dedication to her family and her career.


Verla spent many years as a claims adjuster at USF&G Insurance, where she was respected for her meticulous attention to detail and her unwavering work ethic. Her contributions to the company were highly valued, and she built lasting relationships with her colleagues.


A devout member of the First United Methodist Church of Hurst, Verla was deeply involved in church activities. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and comfort.


Verla had a passion for several hobbies, including tennis, sewing, solving crossword puzzles, and cross stitching. These activities brought her great joy and allowed her to express her creative side.


She is survived by a loving family, including Edward Hajek husband of 65 years, her daughters and their spouses, Jeanne and Joe Whisenant, Connie Hawley, Stephanie and Matt Szabo, and Jennifer and Ken Compton; her son and his spouse, Jerrine Absher and Laura Lopez; and her sister and spouse, Sharon Moshier. Verla was a cherished grandmother to Amanda Whisenant, Virginia and Cory James, Kerry Parsons, Mattie and Ted DeVries, Sarah Rawls, Dorothy Absher, Tiffany and Steven Carr, Virginia and Perry Mitchell, Makenna Szabo, Ashton Szabo, and Jacob and Sara Jackson. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.


Verla was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde S. and Edna Oletha Absher, and her brother, Michael Absher.


The Forest Ridge Funeral Home in North Richland Hills, Texas, is overseeing the arrangements. Verla's life and legacy will be honored in a manner befitting her remarkable spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
