Timothy E. Johnston lost his Earthly battle with cancer and was accepted into the gates of Heaven on Monday, May 31, 2021 at the age of 72. Tim was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend, teacher and boss.
Tim was born the third child to Lewis Chris Johnston and Ruth Helen Johnston on March 12, 1949 in Broken Arrow, OK. His father Lewis (Chris) worked for AA and transferred back to be close to family in Haslet, TX as soon as they could, settling in the nearby city of Bedford, TX where Tim, his brother and sister spent their remaining childhood.
Tim enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967 where he fought in the jungles and trenches of Vietnam for 2 years before being transferred to Norfolk, VA with the promotion of Staff Sargent and ultimately as a Drill Instructor. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1970 with numerous ribbons and medals for valor and sharpshooting. Tim believed once a Marine always a Marine, living his life with integrity and honor until his dying day.
Tim met the love of his life in Bedford TX in 1971 even though they had lived only 2 doors down from each other for years. Tim and Sherry Brewer were married June 16, 1972 for an amazing, adventure filled 49 years. The couple had 2 daughters, Stefanie Ann in 1976 and Erica Lynn in 1979. Tim loved his wife Sherry with an unabashed, youthful love for all of their 49 years, showing their daughters what true love is supposed to look like. First and foremost was his love for the Lord; second was his love for his family. Tim also enjoyed boating, fishing and camping. He rarely came home empty handed and his boat the Semper Fi, was his pride and joy.
Tim received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, and Master’s degree from The University of Phoenix. Most recently before he retired, he held the title of Director of Plant Operations for the Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, TX.
Tim is survived by: his wife, Sherry Johnston, daughter and son in law Stefanie and Bill Pogue of Keller, TX; daughter and son in law Erica and Wayne Neufeld of Prineville, OR; seven grandsons: Chase LaFleur, Tyler LaFleur, Nathan Pogue, and Collin Pogue of Keller, TX; Jacob, Benjamin, and Lucas Neufeld of Prineville, OR; sister Marilou Metke of Bellaire Beach, FL; sister in law Linda Johnston of Justin, TX; brother in law and wife Don and Kim Brewer of Fort Worth, TX; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews, and even a great-great niece. Not to be forgotten Tim and Sherry’s lifelong friends: Buddy and Carolyn Williams of Wadena, MN; Rick and Cynthia Shelly of Norton, OH and so many others.
Tim was preceded in death by: grandparents Horace and Plumma Frank of Haslet, TX; parents Lewis Chris Johnston and Ruth Helen Johnston of Bedford, TX; brother Chris W Johnston of Justin, TX; niece Gina Minette Griggs of Arlington, TX; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and his beloved dogs, Montana, Molly and Ranger who all met him at the gates of heaven.
Tim’s memorial service will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 10:00am at the Forest Ridge Funeral Home in North Richland Hills, TX with placement of his ashes at the Frank/Johnston family cemetery in Roanoke, TX immediately afterward.
