Ronald B. Davis

April 3, 1944 ~ August 27, 2023 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Obituary

On August 27th, 2023, The Lord called Ron home to be with Him. It was a Sunday morning, and a music minister was needed to direct the heavenly choir. Ronald Byron Davis was born April 3,1944 at an Army Hospital at Camp Bowie in Brownwood, Texas to Alma and Happy Davis. Growing up in Brownwood meant participation in every sport. Ron played all of them and spent his later years sharing stories with his friends and grandsons even if they’d heard them dozens of times. Ron attended Texas Tech University on a track scholarship winning the Southwest Conference three mile his junior year. Ron was also a member of the ROTC in college and attended basic training followed by a time of active-duty service after graduation. Ron was promoted to Captain prior to discharge from the Army. In 1969, he entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary later graduating with a Masters in Voice. Ron surrendered to full-time Christian service at the age of nine. God never let him forget that promise. He served as Minister of Music and Youth in several churches beginning at the age of 17 before coming to Birdville Baptist Church in 1974. He served with Dwaine Greene for 28 years, followed by 13 years at Oak Knoll Baptist Church before retirement. His greatest joy was bringing out the best in a church choir and orchestra for the glory of God. Ron loved the process of getting youth choirs ready for mission trips, watching young people dig into scripture while preparing to teach VBS and backyard bible clubs across the country. Ron served 60 years in ministry impacting countless lives along the way. Ron and Carlynn met in high school and married in 1966. God blessed them with two children, Kimberly and Jason. Ron went to every game to watch Kimberly perform in the drill team and learned about soccer so he could coach and enjoy the sport Jason loved. Kimberly gave us 3 handsome grandsons Connor, Camden and Carson that Ron loved watching play sports. He was afforded the opportunity to spend extra time with them helping pick them up from school, take them to ball practices and telling them funny stories (most of which Connor said were probably not true). Later Jason and Tanya added 2 beautiful granddaughters to the family, Madison and Bailey. He especially enjoyed having time with Bailey, the youngest one the last eight years during his retirement. Ron was introduced to his first great granddaughter Lauryn born August 23rd shortly before his passing and was so proud to get to meet her. He adoringly commented on how beautiful she was and how happy it made him. Ron is survived by his wife, Carlynn Davis, daughter Kimberly Lynn Davis, son Jason Ronald Davis and wife Tanya. He was Papa to Connor Ray Wilson and wife Skylar, Camden Ryan Wilson, Carson Riley Wilson, Madison Brooke Walker, Bailey Grace Davis and Lauryn Rebekah Wilson. Ron is also survived by his little brother David Davis and wife Marilyn, brother-in-law Michael Baird and wife Yolanda as well as his nieces and nephews.
