Roberta Logan Obituary

With her family by her side, Roberta Logan, 87, of Dallas, TX died peacefully on July 18, 2020 from complications from a hip fracture.

She was born in New Castle, Indiana where she was the middle child of Robert and Edna (Swart) Harris. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in Home Economics.

After graduation, she moved to Indianapolis where she was a buyer of china, crystal, and flatware for L.S. Ayers department stores. She loved the retail profession, especially having her hair combed out at the store’s salon in the morning on the way to her office. While at Ayers, she met a fellow colleague, Paul Logan, and they married in 1963. They enjoyed traveling, especially flying in Paul’s plane to the Playboy Club in Chicago, where they were members. They welcomed their daughter, Penelope Heather, while in Indianapolis.

They moved to Nashville, TN in 1971. In addition to being a room mother at Penelope’s school, Roberta was active on several boards including the Nashville Children’s Theater, Bellevue Historical Society, and the Belle Meade Mansion. She was an avid gardener and had gardens for wildflowers, roses, vegetables, herbs, and even had a pumpkin and strawberry patch. She loved Hawaii and travelled there annually to visit friends and add to her collections of mumus. Professionally, her favorite job was managing a dancewear store. Every fall, hundreds of young dancers would flock to her store to be fitted for ballet, pointe, and tap shoes for the upcoming school year. Every spring, she attended the dance recitals of all her customers.

In 2007, she moved to Dallas to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. Still an avid gardener, she turned her back yard into a rose garden with multiple varieties of roses. While in Dallas, she enjoyed reading the paper, doing the daily crossword puzzle, swimming, visiting museums, attending musicals, watching NASCAR, and ensuring that her son-in-law had a properly appointed kitchen.

Her parents, siblings, and husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penelope and Brad Furry.
