Leon Henry Jones Jr.

Leon Henry Jones Jr. went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2022.  He was born November 14, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Leon Henry Jones Sr. and Dorothy Marian Alexander Jones.  He was the last of 4 children: Ellevia Smith, Mable Bailey-Steen (deceased), Norma Jean Baker (deceased). 

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 3, 9:30am at Forest Ridge Funeral Home.

Interment will Follow at DFW National Cemetery at 11:15.

Leon joined the United States Air Force in December 1967 and served honorably until December 1993 achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service, he earned several accolades and medals.

Leon’s experience in the Air Force played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Air Force taught him the value of discipline and teamwork. 

While stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, he met and married Johnnie Johnson of Tyler, Texas in September 1972.  One child was born to this union in January 1977 (Dione Nicole Jones).  They had a full life together traveling the world with the military. 

Leon graduated from Highlands High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1963.  He received his BS at the University of Texas at San Antonio in December 1997. 

With all the accomplishments and relationships Leon has made over the years, none was more important to him than his relationship with the Lord.  He was a man of God first and foremost.

Leon was a faithful member and employee to the Resurrection Baptist Church in Schertz, Texas for over 25 years.

He was affectionately known as “Junior” or “Uncle Junior” to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Johnnie; daughter, Dione; Keith Johnson of Tyler, Texas (step-son); grandson, EJ Watkins (who he loved dearly); Ellevia Jones Smith (Sister) of Silver Spring, Maryland; Carlton Baker (brother-in-law) of Lynn Haven, Florida and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leon’s presence will be missed on this earth, but we know we will see him again.
