JL (Julius Lloyd) Funk, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant of his faith, passed away peacefully on March 17th at the age of 84. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, and raised in Levelland, where he built a life centered around family, faith, and community.

Known for his love of working with children and teenagers, JL dedicated many years to teaching 2-year-olds and 1st graders in Sunday school. He was an active leader in youth choir and mission trips, always guiding young hearts in their spiritual journeys. His passion for ministry extended to church camps at Riverbend and Camp Grady Spruce, where he found great joy in mentoring and encouraging others.

A man of many talents, JL loved singing in the church choir, spending time in nature, and sharing his gift for cooking. His sugar cookies and blackberry cobbler were legendary, especially among his church family, for whom he took great pleasure in baking.

He attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University, valuing education and the opportunities it provided.

JL was blessed with 62 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Louise. He is survived by his sons and their wives: Jim and Beth, Doug and Suzie, and Matt and Meredith. He is also survived by his two brothers, Frank and Bobby, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Alfred and Mattie Pauline, his sister, Kay Gilmer, and one cherished grandson.

JL lived a life of faith, love, and service. His warm heart, unwavering kindness, and dedication to his family and church will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
