Johnnie Marie Johnson Jones went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2022.  She was born in Tyler, Texas to the late JC Johnson Sr and Vida Mae Edwards Johnson on September 13, 1942. She was the first of 8 children: Ella R. Starks of Lakewood, New Jersey; Delois A. Smith (deceased) of Tyler, Texas; Leonard Johnson of Tyler, Texas; Virginia L. Johnson of Tyler, Texas; JC Johnson Jr (Bob) of Tyler, Texas; Michael E. Johnson of Tyler, Texas; Gary D. Johnson of Dallas, Texas.

Johnnie accepted Christ at a young age and that was the cornerstone of her life. She was a child of God.  Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Her life’s work was nursing.  After graduating Jackson Public School in 1960, she attended nursing school and spent several years as an ER nurse at the Baptist Hospital in downtown San Antonio.

In 1972, she met and married Leon Henry Jones Jr. of San Antonio, Texas.  They had a full life together traveling the world with the military. 

In 1991, she accepted a position as school nurse at Samuel Clemens High School where she worked for over 20 years.  She was loved and respected by all her coworkers and every student she encountered at Clemens.

Johnnie was a faithful member of the Resurrection Baptist Church in Schertz, Texas for over 25 years.

Johnnie was the backbone of the family; she was the glue that held everything together.  A kind and loving woman, with a big heart.  Everyone that met her can agree that she was a wonderful woman.

She is survived by her daughter, Dione of North Richland Hills; her son Keith Johnson of Tyler, Texas (Kristy Johnson); Ella R. Starks (sister) of Lakewood, New Jersey; Leonard Johnson (brother) of Tyler, Texas; Virginia L. Johnson (sister) of Tyler, Texas; JC Johnson Jr (brother) of Tyler, Texas; Michael E. Johnson (brother) of Tyler, Texas; Gary D. Johnson (brother) of Dallas, Texas; grandsons EJ Watkins, Kelvin Johnson, Kyle Johnson and granddaughter Katrina Tompkins (Cory), 4 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Johnnie will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but we rejoice in knowing that we will see her again.
