Joan Francis Harris Schmidt

Master Gardener, Beta Sigma Phi sorority sister, and retired Medical Technologist Joan Francis Harris Schmidt’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Joan left this world on November 10, 2022 at the age of 81 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Joan, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Guy Carl Harris and Anna Genevieve Guidry Harris on May 9, 1941. After completing her Bachelor’s degree at Louisiana State University, she worked tirelessly in the medical field her entire career, first from Metairie, Louisiana where she married her husband, Roy Herbert Schmidt, and then later in Texas after moving to Euless in 1981. Together, they had 2 children: David and Sally. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Joan. A wonderful cook, Joan loved to entertain in her earlier years. More recently, she loved a quiet evening with friends and a glass of wine in hand. Most days, you would find her in her many gardens at home among her beautiful daylilies and bearded irises. Joan spent many days sharing her love of gardening volunteering at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens and other events with her Daylily society. She had an uncanny ability to speak her mind, prove her independence, and openly share her kindness for those that she loved. Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Joan is survived by Roy’s son, Bert Schmidt and his wife Karen and their children, her son, David Schmidt and his wife Mary and their children Theresa and Mary, her daughter Sally MacNeill and her husband Scott and their children Cole and Joan, Cole’s son Wyatt, and her siblings, brothers Guy and Alan and sisters Genevieve and Janet and their families. Joan will be honored in a celebration of life memorial ceremony on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Ash Lane United Methodist Church, 1001 W. Ash Lane, Euless, TX 76039. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm, memorial service at 2:30pm, followed by a celebration of life gathering at her home for friends and family.
