Gerald Dwight Plemons (Jerry), 75, of North Richland Hills, Texas passed away at home on
April 10, 2020. Jerry was born in Waco, Texas on December 28, 1944 to Dwight and Lois
(Davis) Plemons. He grew up in Haltom City and graduated from Haltom high school in 1963.
Jerry attended Fort Worth Christian Junior College, and then graduated from Harding University
in Searcy, Arkansas. He earned a degree in elementary education, and a masters degree in
administration from North Texas State. Jerry married Jan (Mitchell) Plemons on January 23,
1968. They raised two daughters, Jennifer and Julie.
Education was his passion. Jerry was an influential teacher, administrator, and leader in the
education of children. He spent most of his career as a principal. Jerry was beloved as a mentor
to teachers and loved encouraging and guiding them to reach their potential. The majority
of his career was in the HEB and Keller school districts, and the last part of his career he
proudly spent at his alma mater, West Birdville Elementary
He was an active member at Legacy Church of Christ. Over the years he served as elder,
teacher, and advisor. Jerry loved to spend time with his grandchildren, planning trips, going to
church, using his computer, and shopping. He had an affinity for watches and boots and loved
to research about their craftsmanship.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Lois Plemons and Dwight Plemons. He is survived
by his wife of 52 years, Jan (Mitchell) Plemons; His daughters, Julie Burnley (Chris) and Jennifer
Graham (Mark); His grandchildren Alex Griffin, Lyla Burnley, and Levi Burnley; and his
brother Don Plemons.
The family wishes to thank their small group at Legacy and various other wonderful friends that
consistently checked on them throughout Jerry’s illness. The family requests memorial donations
to be made to Lifeline Chaplaincy, Fortress Youth Development Center, and Body & Soul
ministries.
