Edith Alene Keele
Edith Alene Keele passed from this life to the next on Tuesday morning, November 15, being 97 years old.
Edith was born to Irvin and Dolly Stevens on August 14, 1925, on their farm near Yoakum, Texas. Edith was taught by faithful Christian parents and was baptized into Christ as a teenager. While attending school in Austin, Edith played violin for the Austin symphony.
She married Howell Davis Keele the day after her 17th birthday and graduated the next year from High School in San Antonio, keeping her promise to her dad that she would finish her education.
Edith spent many years working in banks, beginning with the North Fort Worth State Bank and ending her career with the First Bank of Saginaw, where she became an assistant vice president. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association.
Edith and Howell were very active in the church throughout their lives, especially with the Azle Avenue and College Hill churches of Christ. Edith was an elder’s wife, and following Howell’s death in 1991, she later married Leamon Keele and loved being active as a minister’s wife at the Oakdale church of Christ in Liberty City, Texas. Leamon (or L.G. as he was known) preceded Edith in death in 2012. Edith continued to have a great love for the Lord and his church and was interested in the growth and spread of the church, even in the retirement and assisted living homes in which she lived.
Edith and Howell had four children. Linda (who married Gary Stevens. Linda followed in her mother’s steps as Gary served as an elder at College Hill for 29 years). Edith and Howell also had three sons, all of whom serve as ministers in the Lord’s church. Larry (married to Janet Pope), Leonard (married to Kathy Mann), and Leslie (married to Deatra Tinius). Edith is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be directed by the Forest Ridge Funeral Home with visitation at College Hill church of Christ on Tuesday, Nov 22, from 9:30-10:20, followed by the funeral service at 10:30. Burial will be at Bluebonnet Hills cemetery at 12 pm
