On August 7, 2023, Diane Whitney got her wings and went to walk with the angels and our Heavenly Father. She was 77 years old. Diane grew up in California, where she met her husband, David, of 55 years. Their travels took them to many places given David’s position in the U.S. Army and in the early 1980s, they became Texans.
Though Diane’s health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and determined spirit kept her pushing through the pain. She wanted to be present for her family and friends. Giving to others was part of Diane. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and even “just because” days. She sought ways to help others, she would pray for them and at the same time, light candles on their behalf.
It would be wrong to say Diane lost her battle with her health as she never stopped fighting. No matter how much pain she was in, she was always determined to push herself. When anyone else would have broken, Diane stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. Thank you to the incredible medical care team who carried great compassion for Diane and provided the very best care possible.
Diane is survived by her husband David, three children, and their spouses Scott & Nancy Whitney, Nicolle Belken, Stephanie & Shane Welter: and seven grandchildren, Christopher, Brennen, Alec, Jackson, Audrey, Henry, and Abby. Brother and sister-in-law, Walt and Laurie Diangson, many cousins, extended family, and beautiful friends. Every one of these people Diane supported, loved, and cared for. Rather that be by cheering them on, giving the best hug when they needed it most, or merely listening. She truly was full of love and happiness, and her smile could brighten up any room. Diane will be greatly missed and leaves a legacy for us all to follow!
