Darwin Lyle Schierer

November 25, 1950 ~ July 24, 2023 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Obituary

Darwin Lyle Schierer was born November 25, 1950 in Buffalo, New York, to Richard Calvin Schierer and Theola Maxine Wetherbee Schierer.  He went home to be with his Lord on July 24, 2023.

His future mother-in-law and then pastor’s wife, Phyllis Wetherbee, introduced him to Jesus one Sunday morning during children’s church when he was 8.  He followed his Lord for the remainder of his life, always desiring a deeper relationship with Him and being influential in leading others to Him.

In May 1969, a year after graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force, and after his initial training, was stationed at Kincheloe AFB in Michigan. In 1973, an opportunity to go to Keesler AFB, Mississippi became available, and he returned to the tech school he’d attended to become an instructor.

He and Fauhn met as kids when her dad was his family's pastor. In 1968, after the Schierers including Darwin visited the Wetherbees minus Fauhn, her mom suggested she write to him.  Two years, many letters, some phone calls and seven visits later, they were married.

Scheduled for discharge in January 1976 and not wanting to stay in Mississippi, he packed up his family and moved to Texas where he felt God was leading them.  He had neither a place to live nor a job; only the belief that God was in it.  Within a week, he secured both housing and employment.  In 1978, he  started working at General Dynamics (GD) in Ft. Worth. In 1986, he accepted an overseas assignment and the Darwin Schierer family moved to Israel.

Moving back to Texas  in 1990, he continued working for GD which later became Lockheed Martin and, after 38+ years, retired in 2016. He was now able to spend more time in Australia supporting the medical missionary ship ministry where son Jeremy and family served.  The highlight of those trips was 10 days with two grandsons while their parents were out of the country.  Darwin enjoyed wood-working and had hoped to spend many more years on various projects with all his grandsons..

Darwin is survived by Fauhn Schierer, wife of 51 years; Children: Jeremy (Lori) Schierer of Townsville, Australia, and Bethany (David) Bowman of Ft. Worth, TX; Five grandsons: Monty and Reuben Schierer; Alex, Steven and Benjamin Bowman; Brothers: Calvin Schierer of Fillmore, NY, and Tim Schierer of Buffalo, NY.
