Darlene Fowler was welcomed into heaven on Thursday, November 5th, 2020.
She was born in Limestone County, Texas on September 11, 1936. She attended college at TWC.
She was married to Kenneth Biggs and together they had three children.
Darlene had a heart for children, often taking care children in her home. Many stayed in contact over the years. Darlene also loved to sew. She often made her own dresses as well as her daughter’s clothes. One of the girls’ favorite memories was picking out the fabrics and sewing together at their grandmother’s house.
Later in life she married Bill Fowler on March 24, 1977. Together they opened a family owned childcare facility, Fowlers Childcare in Bedford. With the help of Darla and Kayla, together they successfully operated the daycare for over 10 years.
A major highlight in their life together was traveling. They made it to almost every state in the US, as well as overseas. One of her favorite destinations was Branson, Missouri. She loved seeing Andy Williams in concert. She collected postcards everywhere they went.
Besides traveling, she loved movies, theater, music and entertaining family and friends in her home. She was an amazing friend to many at Davis Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member for over 30 years. One of her biggest joys in life was filling up ‘her’ church pew with family.
What made Darlene the most proud was her grandchildren. She was always there for them. Marcus’ favorite memories were always Christmas at Mamaw and Dada’s and playing chicken foot with the dominos. Some of Ashley’s favorite memories are the times her and Jon would come back from Virigina to visit and Jon and Mamaw would get Whataburger together. Patrick loved singing Happy Birthday to Mamaw every year on the phone, a tradition she originally started by singing to him every year.
Just when she thought she couldn’t be more proud of them, she became a great grandmother to three beautiful children. David and Dylan loved getting coins in a bag at Christmas to fill their piggy banks she gave them.
During her last years, Darlene looked forward to her weekly lunches with Darla and Kayla and her frequent lunches with her cousins and friends.
