Carol (Berger) Sanders Obituary
Carol Sanders
May 2, 1942 – August 2, 2025
Carol Sanders, age 83, of Bedford, Texas, passed away on August 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born on May 2, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana, to Arthur Stanley Berger and Virginia Klamer Berger. A lifelong learner and devoted educator, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri and later completed a Master of Arts in Education at Texas Wesleyan College. Teaching was more than a job for Carol—it was a calling. She spent 31 years in elementary education, including 22 years with Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, where she touched the lives of generations of students. She was even honored as Teacher of the Year—a recognition that will come as no surprise to anyone who knew the dedication she brought to the classroom.
On July 3, 1998, Carol married the love of her life, Doug Sanders, in Hurst, Texas. Their marriage was a beautiful blend of family, faith, and shared devotion. She treasured her role as wife, mother, stepmother, and grandmother, and she poured her heart into her family.
Faith was central to Carol’s life. She was a devoted member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Hurst, where she worshipped, volunteered, and built lasting friendships. She was especially active in the Presbyterian Women’s group and was once named Woman of the Year—an honor that reflected her humble dedication to serving others.
Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Doug Sanders; her sons Joe Johnson and wife Lisa, and Jack Johnson and wife Laci; her stepson Garrett Sanders and wife Stacey; and her adored grandchildren: Will and Anna Kate Johnson, and Jake, Cole, and Paige Johnson.
Carol also shared a special bond with a few dear family friends—Ron and Linda Brown, Eddie and Michelle Redwine, and Robert and Sara Snell—each of whom held a unique and meaningful place in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Stanley and Virginia Klamer Berger.
Carol loved with her whole heart and made everyone she encountered feel truly seen and valued. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched—with every student she taught, every friend she comforted, and every soul she lifted. She believed in doing good, loving well, and showing up—and that’s exactly what she did, every day.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to North East Emergency Distribution (N.E.E.D) or a charity of your choice, in honor of Carol’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
Family and friends are invited to gather as we honor and remember Carol at a Celebration of Life to be held on Friday August 8, 2025 at 1pm at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, located at 745 W Pipeline Rd, Hurst, TX 76053.
