Betty Sue Mankel Obituary
Betty Sue Mankel, 84 passed away on May 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ronald Walter Mankel.
Betty was born in Three Rivers, Texas on February 13,1942. She spent the early years of her childhood in Three Rivers. She later moved to River Oaks, graduating from Castleberry High School. Soon after graduating she moved to Mineral Wells where she met her husband.
Ronald Mankel was in the Army, stationed at Ft. Wolters. After his discharge they married and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where three of their four children were born. Joanne, Janet, and Richard. The cold winters were not appealing to Betty. They moved back to Texas, bought a home in Hurst. They were blessed again with another son, Robert (Bobby).
Betty retired from Hurst Euless Bedford ISD. She spent countless hours preparing meals, managing employees, and then became a Supervisor for the Child Nutrition Services. She made many friends over her years of service with the school district.
Betty was a member of First Baptist Hurst. She was on the church Meet and Greet Committee. She was a part of the local mission ministry which included donating school supplies and Christmas gifts to students of HEB. God also put it on her heart to give to the missionaries to further their efforts in bringing others to Christ.
Betty loved the Texas Longhorn Football Team, and she was eagerly anticipating the 2026 football season.
Betty enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She loved going to visit her brother Charles (Sonny) Roberson and his family in Alice, Texas.
Betty loved Bluebonnet flowers and her home had many pictures and daily reminders of how much she loved the state of Texas. She always said “ Everything you’ll ever need is right here in the State of Texas, you don’t need to go anywhere else.” She was a Texas gal through and through.
In Betty’s later years, technology was her nemesis and it was a source of laughter and shared stories by her family.
